PROJECT WHITE T-SHIRT

Tonight I went to the opening reception of Project White T-shirt at Welcome Hunters in chinatown. Project White T-shirt is an art exhibition and auction curated by Triple Major in which all proceeds go to Designers Against Aids. The project challenged 31 designers from 13 countries to "transform a plain white t-shirt into something more. The designers can turn the shirt into anything they want, however they want. They will redefine the definition of the t-shirt as we’ve understood it for so many decades." These type of challenges always intrigue me, especially trying to redefine such a basic part of culture as a White T-shirt. This is partly why I'm constantly obsessed with Slow and Steady Wins the Race, because I think Mary Ping's series based fashion always tries to redefine a type of clothing we take for granted. In any case, I wasn't impressed with ALL of the designers creations, but a few stood out to me. I think the thing I really wanted most though was the GIANT plain white T shown in the picture above, sadly I don't think that is up for the auction, and I'm sure if it was I probably couldn't afford to win it.

The exhibition is showcased at Welcome Hunters now through January 27, 2010, and then will have a moment at Space 15Twenty in Hollywood in February 2010, but bidding has already begun online so visit www.projectwhitetshirt.com to view all the pieces and purchase some for yourself.

Martin Cohn

I know I've been absent for a while, but this just excited me enough to post a little something. MALE model Martin Cohn closed the show for Elise Overland wearing a black sequined, platform heels, and possibly fake breasts....HELLO?! WORK!

I've been noticing that Martin has gotten alot more jobs recently ever since he went completely albino with the bleached blonde eyebrows and hair, pushing his androgynous look just a little bit further than most of the other waify boys. Although I don't really know him, I guess he's come a long way from back when I first took notice in New York years ago when my friend introduced me to him. If nothing else his look has changed drastically enough for me to warrant some applause. I know the whole cross dressing thing has been done before, and the androgyny too, but for some reason this just excited me a little bit more, so kudos to martin and I hope I see more.

"BARBIE & KEN" KINDA FAG

Something that I've never really thought about too much, but am now realizing more and more is that I love dolls! Who knew? I guess I played with "Action Figures" and dolls alot when i was a kid (especially my little pony), but never thought twice about it until about a year ago when I found a hunky male doll in a speedo and a lesbionically babe-a-licious Sporty Spice doll within the same week. I still have these two dolls on display in my house. In my eyes, they are a couple....even though Sporty Spice is SO gay.

My plan was to start buying more pop culture themed dolls but I never stuck with that. Now that Jeffrey is commemorating their 10 year anniversary by curating a charity auction of limited edition dolls styled by over 50 top designers my love for dolls has been revived. I know that I can't currently afford ANY of these dolls, which makes me want to die, but maybe somewhere down the line I'll buy one off ebay or something. Unless one of you could buy it for me?! I guess it would be really weird and creepy if owned a bunch of dolls though, especially at my current age and living situation.

Here are a few of my favorites:

I'm not sure if the Gareth Pugh Ken doll is also for Jeffrey, but either way I want it as well.

Rodarded for Target

It was announced today that Rodarte will be joining the ranks of Alexander McQueen by doing a short term line of affordable clothing for Target. Even though I thought the McQueen for Target stuff left something to be desired (I only really like my fishnet zipper dress, ha) I am still excited to see what the Rodarte girls can get done through Target. I'm sure there wont be any intricately disintegrating knits like in most of their collections, but if they are still inspired by horror movies like they have been their entire career thus far it should be interesting to see their interpretation. I just hope, for my sake, its not a bunch of Holiday type dresses as it is due to release in stores on December 20. Now if only Target would do a shoe designer collaboration with someone worth while. I mean, the Rodarte collaboration shoes have been pretty consistently genious:

Here's a link to a little more useful information...i guess:
NYmag

I'll update further when the actual pictures of the products get released.

GRACE JONES

Grace Jones killed it at the bowl last night.
She was queen and we all bowed to her.
There was an outfit change for almost every single song, and they were FLAWLESS outfits.

I was most obsessed with her zebra warrior look:

this outfit was pretty good too:

but her outfit for La Vie En Rose made EVERYBODY flip out:

And when she turned around...I DIED.

If you EVER have the chance to see Grace Jones alive, DO IT! DUH.

FASHION FAG: GIVENCHY

I can't think of a better time to start up this blog than during paris men's S/S 2010 fashion shows. I'm already OBSESSED with a few men's shows this season, but for this post I'll just focus on Givenchy.

Givenchy has been a non-stop obsession since Ricardo Tisci grabbed ahold of the reins of the house's menswear division back in 2008. In this short time he has served us up a latino goth hunk dream every season, each time making me wish I could take out a second mortgage on my house to snatch up the entire collection. If only i even had a house and a mortgage!

The similarities between this collection and a few of my other obsessions is kind of alarming. The S/S 2010 menswear collection brings to mind the boys of Mustache Mondays, a gay club night in Los Angeles, as well as a few friends labels I've been equally obsessed with, Telfar and Hood By Air. It makes me think of how everything often comes full circle. Are we influencing them or are they influencing us?

Here are a few of my favorite looks:

Sidenote:
What am I doing walking in the show?
